Who is Shared Motherhood IVF for?
At Apricity, we have a range of fertility options for lesbian couples. As the majority of lesbian women seeking fertility treatment are not infertile, they have good chances of success with our IUI package, using donor sperm. However, the limitation of this treatment means that only one partner can be biologically involved with the conception and pregnancy. With our Shared Motherhood IVF package, both female partners can be part of the process, enabling a truly shared motherhood journey right from conception.
What Does Shared Motherhood IVF Involve?
Treatment begins with one partner donating her eggs for IVF, which we carry out in collaboration with our sister company, Altrui. Once the eggs have been collected from the ovaries at the optimal time, they are fertilised using the couple’s choice of donor sperm in our laboratory. After fertilisation, one of the resulting embryos is then inserted into the uterus of the other partner, in order for pregnancy to begin. This means that both partners have an equal and important part in the process – one as the ‘biological mother’ and one as the ‘birth mother’.

It is up to the couple as to which partner takes each role. Our specialists can help to carry out our fertility diagnostics, which will help you to decide which partner donates their eggs, and which partner will carry the baby. Factors that may affect your decision include age, ovarian reserve, and the presence of any fertility issues.

Our packages are carefully designed to ensure you are aware of costs upfront, with no surprises. This approach allows us to focus on providing you with the best possible care.
This package includes all of the medical necessities that both mothers will need for a full IVF cycle. A full IVF cycle consists of one episode of ovarian stimulation followed by egg collection for the biological mother and one transfer event of resultant embryo(s) for the gestational mother.
The package does not include donor sperm. This is something that Semovo, our trusted partner and UK-based sperm bank, can help with. We do accept donor sperm from a selection of other reputable sperm banks - please contact our team if you wish to use another sperm bank.

Please note that during the Covid-19 situation, to protect you and staff we have decided to carry out Covid Antigen tests for those undergoing treatment. We feel these are necessary to ensure that treatment is carried out safely.
Covid Antigen tests cost £86 each, and you should expect around two tests per cycle. Apricity’s Covid Antigen tests are priced at cost price without applying a premium or profit margin.

Once you have identified your donor sperm, our team can place the order and make arrangements on your behalf.

The HFEA considers that there isn't enough evidence to support the efficacy of some "add-on" treatments such as time-lapse imaging or PGS, which is why we do not include them in our standard pricing packages. We also do not include non-routine tests such as Natural Killer Cells or DNA fragmentation, although if required we would be happy to arrange them for you at additional cost.

Legal aspects
We will provide you with all the legal information necessary regarding parenthood and parental responsibility.
We will also ensure that all required consent forms are completed, including the HFEA Legal parenthood consents, which gives both partners legal parenthood of any child born as a result of their treatment.
Other treatments and services
We also offer other treatment options for lesbian couples interested in conceiving:
- Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) with donor sperm: This if often the simplest method of conceiving as a lesbian couple. IUI is less invasive than IVF, and involves minimal discomfort. In this process, donor sperm is injected directly into the womb during time of high ovulation. You can learn more on our IUI package page.
- IVF with donor sperm: In vitro fertilisation with donor sperm involves collecting eggs from your ovaries and fertilising them using donor sperm. The best-quality fertilised egg (the embryo), is then placed back in your womb. You can learn more on our IVF package page.
