Since the development of IVF over 40 years ago, it has been used to treat people with a range of fertility issues. Originally intended for women with damaged fallopian tubes, today it is also commonly used for women with endometriosis and PCOS, women with previously failed cycles of IUI, or when a male partner has reduced sperm quality. It is also the chosen procedure when either a couple or single female have unknown infertility issues – sometimes there are a range of reasons why natural conception may not work effectively and IVF is the best option.
If IVF is decided to be the most appropriate treatment after consultation, a follow-up assessment will be arranged at one of our partner clinics, which involves a number of tests to ensure that you are physically ready to undergo the treatment. The IVF process includes a number of steps, beginning with female hormone therapy and ending with fertilised embryos being transferred into the uterus. Although each individual case is unique, we expect a course of IVF to take approximately 7 weeks from the initial fertility drugs to pregnancy test.
An IVF treatment cycle can be broken down into 6 steps:
The remaining embryos from your treatment can also be frozen and stored for later transfer in another cycle, in a process known as vitrification. Due to advancements in technology, success rates from a frozen embryo transfer are now just as good as those from a fresh IVF cycle.
Although IVF is not a cure for infertility, the treatment is a solution to any issues that prevent natural conception and is one of our main procedures to help women become pregnant

The HFEA considers that there isn't enough evidence to support the efficacy of some "add-on" treatments such as time-lapse imaging or PGS, which is why we do not include them in our standard pricing packages. We also do not include non-routine tests such as Natural Killer Cells or DNA fragmentation, although if required we would be happy to arrange them for you at additional cost.
